In Korean culture, we celebrate 100th day for a baby. It’s called ‘Baek-Il.’ Baek means 100 and Il means day. This used to be a huge celebration but now people do a smaller party with just the family. We always have white rice cake. My sister and I did some search on the Internet beforehand and looked like people write baek in Chinese letter on the white rice cake. So my sister literally used seaweed and cut up to make the letter. LOL We shared a bunch with my friends and sister friends. My mom said more we share the merrier.
I baked a cake as well. It’s a vanilla cupcake recipe that I have on my blog. This recipe makes 12 cupcakes but it was perfect amount for small cake tin. Because it’s for baek-il table, we traditionally use white rice cake. So I decided to use white butter cream recipe. However, our family prefers strawberry butter cream so I decided to layer using strawberry and top the cake with regular white butter cream. Last but not least, I made a quick cake topper using a box, yellow paper, and a toothpick. It worked out great!
For balloon arch… I’m glad we did this. It really looked beautiful in photos. However, it was a pain in the butt. Here is a useful tip for you. USE HELIUM GAS. Yes, even if you don’t need to have them float and are planning on sticking it on the wall, stairs, etc, you’ll thank me later. With the weight of all the balloons, it gets so heavy that it’s harder to stick it on the wall. We had to get creative by attaching extra strings to hold it up from the top. We went through many painter’s tape. If you use helium, you just have to use some kind of weight and string to hold it up on the height you desire. If/when I do this again, I’ll be using helium gas for sure.
Overall, it was such a blessing to have my sister and my parents. My sister drove two hours to be with our family and celebrate. She brought the dduk (rice cake), helped me decorate, and brought gifts for J. My parents celebrated with us half way around the world in South Korea. They sent baby quilt two months in advance so J will have his gift on the day of his actual celebration, they sent other gifts through my sister, and mom made beautiful baekil dduk (shown in the video at the end) so we can see it virtually. I miss them so much and am thankful for all their work.
J, you are so loved by bunch of people! and mommy and daddy love you so much!❤️
